This custom coffee table is a culmination of reflexive design decisions and beautiful local material. The base of the table features an undulating pattern of solid walnut slats, carefully milled and arranged to elevate knotty, checked, and off-color stock. These walnut boards likely would have been overlooked or used in less visible applications. Instead, they were implemented to show off the variety of hues that can be seen within the same tree. It was the ideal start to implementing creative reuse in our shop's design process.

The most prominent feature of this custom coffee table is a stunning slab of local walnut. Embracing its natural imperfections, we reinforced the slab with alternating walnut patches. These swatches are structural, but also provide an interruption to the organic flow of the slab's grain. These abrupt moments reminded us of the breaks and eddies you might see when the current meets a boulder in a small mountain stream.
